'Prepare for battle', says MA president

15-10-2008,
The MA's president, Stuart Davies, told those at the Museums Association's annual general meeting in Liverpool last week that they should 'prepare for battle' to make the case for future funding as the coming years will be tough...
Davies told the AGM: "Changes are coming. The next few years are going to be tough. We need to mobilise our resources now. We will need the best arguments, our best case studies, our best data and statistics - please think about all of this and please be ready to share your knowledge and information with those who will speak on your behalf.

"Our negotiators will need to be at their best but backed up by the voices of many - not just us professionals but all our supporters out there. The time has come."

In his speech, his first as President of the MA, Davies also emphasised the importance of continued funding for Renaissance, the need for joined-up thinking over the Cultural Olympiad, and the economic challenges facing smaller and medium-sized museums over the coming years.
