Media consultant and lobbyist Mark Gallagher appointed to role
The Museums Association (MA) has announced the appointment Mark Gallagher as Board member with responsibility for communications and advocacy.

The Board nominated Gallagher for the role because of his extensive experience in corporate lobbying, PR and media strategy.

Gallagher is the founder and senior partner of Pagefield , an independent communications consultancy that has delivered campaigns and lobbying for some of the country’s largest organisations.

He has more than 20 years of experience in public and regulatory affairs, corporate PR and campaigning, as well as extensive contacts within the current government, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and other culture agencies.

Gallagher has planned and executed a wide range of successful campaigns, including ITN’s campaign to win the contract for ITV News. He also has in-depth knowledge of modern newsroom culture, having built and managed in-house press teams for ITV News and Channel 4 News, among others.

The MA Board hopes that Gallagher will provide strategic advice to help the MA better communicate with members and advocate for museums at a national level.

Gallagher said: “I’m delighted to be joining the MA board. The sector faces some major challenges and I hope I’m able to use my commercial sector and public policy experience to help the Association and its membership in the months and years ahead.

"It’s a terrific organisation and I’m honoured to be joining a talented group of people focused on the public good.”

MA president Vanessa Trevelyan said: “Mark Gallagher's appointment to the Board marks a new departure for the MA. He brings a range of top class PR and advocacy skills and experience that will support us in speaking up for the museum sector.

“His passion for museums and enthusiasm for the work that we do is compelling. I suspect that he will shake up our ideas quite considerably so I look forward to chairing some lively Board meetings.”

Gallagher is the third nominated member to be announced since the MA governance restructure, which reduced the size of the Board to make it more dynamic and efficient.

The new 12-person Board consists of eight elected members and four members chosen by the Board for their specialist knowledge. The final nominated member will be announced shortly.
