Museums eligible for £45m arts touring fund

ACE grants available for projects explicitly linked to arts activity
Arts Council England (ACE) has released details of its new £45m strategic touring programme for the arts, including guidelines on how museums can meet the eligibility criteria.
The programme is designed to encourage collaboration between organisations and creative sectors so that more people across England can access the arts.
It is funded through the National Lottery and offers grants of at least £10,000 to individuals, organisations, partners and consortia.
Lottery regulations stipulate that money must go towards projects that are explicitly linked to arts activity - but museums working collaboratively with artists or other arts sectors are eligible to apply.
A statement on the ACE website says: “We welcome applications from museums for the touring of projects which are explicitly linked with arts activity through the strategic programme.
“We are keen to encourage museums and the arts to reach more people across a wider variety of places.
“Collaborations between museums, artists and arts organisations can provide innovative opportunities to tour high quality artistic work to new settings inspired by a range of subject matters.”
Maurice Davies, the Museums Association’s head of policy, said the programme would “offer all sorts of opportunities for museums to work with arts organisations”.
Museums can apply to the programme for projects under any of ACE’s six art forms: combined arts, dance, literature, music, theatre and visual arts.
Davies added: “In time, it would be good to see funds specifically to support touring exhibitions of the full range of museum subjects.”
Applications for the first round of funding are now open and must be submitted online by 5pm on Friday 2 March 2012.
