Open letter to culture minister highlights sector anger over under-spend
Following reports in Museums Journal that the Museums Libraries and Archives Council is reporting a £4.8m under-spend this financial year on the Renaissance in the Regions programme, the Museums Association has written to culture minister Margaret Hodge calling for an inquiry into the failure to allocate the funds.

Written by MA president Stuart Davies, the letter flags up “widespread frustration and anger on this issue”, and goes on to say: “In difficult financial times the museum sector is shocked and disappointed that inefficiencies have resulted in this loss of valuable resources. They feel let down. This is not a message that the money is not needed, it is a message that the administration of the programme needs improving.

”The Museums Association asks that your department looks into the reasons for this failure to allocate funds and publicises its findings to the museum sector.”
