Funding for collections

Apply now for second round of Effective Collections
The second round of Effective Collections funding is coming up, and we are encouraging any museums that are interested to apply.

Vicky Kinahan, the MA’s Effective Collections project assistant, said: “At a time when funding for any museum activity is limited making sure museums continue to invest in their collections can be a challenge, but it's essential.

The level of interest and the standard of the applications to the first funding round of Effective Collections highlighted that museums are not only increasingly aware of the different ways in which they can use their collections, but also that those working within museums are proactive and imaginative when it comes to looking at how those collections can be made manageable and accessible.

“From sewing machines being sent to Africa through to partnership working to unlock the potential of a marine fauna collection, the previous recipients of Effective Collections funding have all reported positive changes to the way in which they view and use their collections, even at this early stage.

“Any accredited museum, or museum working towards accreditation, of any size, is welcome to apply, and we are looking forward to working across the sector in order to take the Effective Collections programme on. The deadline is close so we are encouraging museums who wish to apply to do so now.”

Applications for the second round of both the Main Fund and the Special Project Fund must reach the MA by Friday 5th March 2010.
