MA launches election guide
With a general election just around the corner, the MA has launched Museums and the Election, a comprehensive guide on how museums can take advantage of the heightened political atmosphere.
The resource is part of …Love Museums, the MA’s new advocacy project helping museums gain influence through better promotion of their achievements.
The introduction of the handbook follows Gordon Brown's announcement yesterday that a general election will be called on May 6th.
The MA’s advocacy associate Stacey Arnold said: “In this changing political and economic climate there has never been a more important time to make the case for museums. The pre-election period sees MPs return to their constituencies and prospective parliamentary candidates embark on a campaign to woo voters.
“This visibility at local level is an opportunity to remind them that museums are at the heart of thriving communities.”
Museums and the Election covers a range of topics including corresponding with candidates; doorstep canvassing; marginal constituencies; tips on what not to do; and links to further useful resources. It also offers advice on what to do after the election.
Arnold said: “Museums and the Election encourages the sector to make politicians notice that voters love museums.”
The guide is the first in a series of advocacy-themed web resources that will be introduced as part of the …Love Museums project. These are intended to complement the scheme’s free workshops, currently taking place across the UK.
