National Museums Scotland has appointed Xerxes Mazda as its director of collections.

He joins from the Royal Ontario Museum, in Toronto, Canada, where he was the deputy director, engagement. Mazda began his career at the Science Museum, London, where he spent 13 years.

He then worked at the British Museum, London, for nine years as its head of learning, volunteers and audience. He takes up his new post in September.

Nicola Pickering is the new senior curator at the London Transport Museum. Prior to this, she was a curator at Eton College in Windsor.

Victoria and Albert Museum news: David Bickle will join the London museum’s senior management team in August as its director of design, exhibitions and FuturePlan. He is currently the senior partner at HawkinsBrown Architects, London.

Jane Marley has left the Royal Cornwall Museum, where she was the curator of archaeology and world cultures, to join South Gloucestershire Council, where she is the museums and heritage officer.

Manus Fullerton goes to Museums Galleries Scotland in July as its new chairman. He is the chief executive of Xi Engineering Consultants.

David Fraser starts at York Civic Trust as its new chief executive in July, following the retirement of long- standing director, Peter Brown. Fraser is a former head of historic estates at the Landmark Trust.

The Royal Academy of Arts, London, has elected Farshid Moussavi as a Royal Academician in the category of architecture.

Moussavi is a principle 
at Farshid Moussavi Architecture and a professor at Harvard University Graduate School of Design.
