MGS awards £300,000 to nine collections
Recipients include Glasgow Museums to research Burrell collection
Nine collections have received more than £300,000 to widen public access in the latest round of Recognition scheme funding.
Scotland’s 39 Recognised Collections are eligible to apply for the funding from Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS), which manage the scheme on behalf of the Scottish government.
Joanne Orr, chief executive officer of MGS, said: "This funding supports Recognised Collections to create new ways of telling their stories, developing excellence in these internationally important collections and improving the overall experience for visitors."
Aberdeen City Council has received £40,000 to install an automated system that will safely store artworks at Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums.
West Dunbartonshire Council has received £40,000 to undertake a complete refurbishment of its collections store to create a comprehensive collections and archives centre, and a new study area.
Culture North Lanarkshire has received £39,990 to create a new exhibition space and run community engagement projects.
Orkney Islands Council has received £38,750 to develop a new flexible approach to permanent exhibitions.
Scottish Football Association Museum Trust has received £35,898 to employ an outreach and digitisation officer to digitise the museum’s collections at Hampden Park and collect new material.
Moray Society has received £35,593 to carry out a collections review at the Elgin Museum.
Perth and Kinross Council has received £26,278 to reinterpret the collection, install new AV and oral displays and create an education space.
Glasgow Museums has received £24,968 to research, assess and conserve William Burrell’s collection of Ribot and Monticelli paintings.
And Almond Valley Heritage Trust has received £19,095 to digitise the collection and archives.
