Director of learning at NMSI to take up director post
Jean Franczyk, director of learning at the National Museum of Science and Industry (NMSI), has been appointed director of the Museum of Science and Industry (Mosi) in Manchester.
The appointment follows the merger between Mosi and NMSI, and the announcement earlier this month that Tony Hill would step down as director of the Manchester museum.
Franczyk will take up the new role next month, reporting directly to Ian Blatchford, director of NMSI and the Science Museum in London.
The NMSI group also includes the Science Museum, York’s National Railway Museum and the National Media Museum in Bradford.
Blatchford said: “Jean is a highly respected colleague, both within NMSI and the wider museum community, and I am confident that she will bring her huge energy, insight and skill to this new role. Jean has a wealth of experience and I am sure the museum will flourish under her leadership.”
As director of learning at NMSI, Franczyk oversees a team of over 120. She also leads NMSI’s audience research and advocacy team.
She said: “Mosi is a great museum in a great city. I relish the opportunity of working with the team at Mosi and together ensuring that the museum evolves as creatively and with as much innovation as Manchester itself.”
Hill announced he would step down as director of Mosi earlier this month. In a statement, he said: “I have loved working at Mosi with the fantastic team and ensuring that visitors enjoy their visit to one of Manchester’s greatest cultural spaces. However, I now believe the time is right to move on.”
In December, NMSI scrapped the director role at the National Media Museum as part of a senior management reorganisation. Instead, a new position – head of the National Media Museum – will be created, reporting to the deputy director of the Science Museum in London.
