Museums and galleries have until 18 March to apply
Applications are due on 18 March for the Hallett Independent Acquisitions Award of £8,000 to spend at the London Original Print Fair.

The award will be given to a shortlisted museum or gallery at this year’s fair, held at the Royal Academy of Arts, London (4-7 May). The fair sells original prints ranging from old masters to work by contemporary artists.

The prize will be given to a museum or gallery to spend at the print fair. Applications are invited in the form of a letter outlining how the award could enhance the organisation’s collection.

The inaugural Acquisitions Award was won by The Atkinson, Southport.

Jane Brown, the gallery manager at The Atkinson, chose to buy a portfolio of 12 etchings by Rachael Whiteread, which was shown as part of the gallery’s summer exhibition, First Ladies: Pioneering Female Artists, which celebrated female artists in their permanent collection.

Christopher Le Brun, the president of the Royal Academy of Arts, said: "The shortlist highlights our national and regional museums and galleries as the custodians of some very important and varied print collections.

"These five organisations represent a wide geographical spread and remind us that some of our strongest print collections are held in popular venues spread widely across the UK. They deserve to be better known."

The application deadline for the Hallett Independent Acquisitions Award is 18 March.

The shortlist will be announced on 7 April. The winner will be announced on 3 May.
