David Anderson, director general of Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales, is to serve as president of the Museums Association (MA) for the next two years.

Before joining Amgueddfa Cymru in 2010, Anderson was education officer at Brighton Museums and led learning departments at the National Maritime Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum.

“The MA is the only body capable of speaking for all museums across the UK,” he said.

“I aim to lead the board to raise the profile of the sector, campaign against the cuts, and fight for social justice and the protection of services for the most vulnerable in our communities.”

Maggie Appleton, chief executive of Luton Culture, and Richard Sandell, head of the University of Leicester’s school of museum studies, were elected to the MA board.
