About Museum Practice

Museum Practice (MP) was first launched in 1998 to provide examples of new developments and innovations in museums and galleries, from the latest technology to new ways of interpreting objects and storing collections.

A lot has changed since then, but the need to share information across institutions is just as pressing - and the internet is increasingly the preferred way to do this.

While still providing the usual in-depth analysis as the printed magazine, MP online aims to be accessible and interactive.

The online magazine

Each monthly edition of MP examines a different area of museum practice, with opportunities for readers to contribute case studies and share best practice.

Every month MP also features an Ask the Expert Q&A on a different issue of museum practice. And on a weekly basis, New Practice looks at what's new in the world of technology, learning, conservation and so on.

You can continue to find past issues of MP online - simply use the archive search tool in the left-hand column or browse previous issues within different areas of museum practice.

You can also comment on different areas of museum practice in the Have Your Say section and submit your own case studies in the Your Case Studies page. For help and advice, read our guide to writing a Musuem Practice case study.

The Museums Association is committed to giving readers high-quality, original, factual and at times challenging content online and in print. Read more about our editorial values and submissions.

Events

MP also offers two different event programmes – MP seminars and MP workshops.

The MP seminar programme
consists of six one-day conferences offering practical and accessible advice on essential areas of museum practice.

MP workshops
are 30-minutes presentations delivered as part of the Museums Association’s (MA) annual Conference and Exhibition.

MP is free for members of the Museums Association, but non-members can still subscribe. Click here to find out more
