Museum jobs: museum/gallery assistant
Men and women in uniform still police the galleries in most national museums. But many local and independent museums that can't afford this luxury have developed a new role called the museum or gallery assistant.

Assistants still help maintain gallery security but they also answer visitor queries and generally help out with events and exhibitions.

Experience working with the public and an interest in the museum is more important than formal qualifications. Most museum services will provide some internal training.

National vocational qualifications in heritage care and visitor services also offer museum assistants the chance to progress up the visitor services ladder.
