The aim of the programme is to enable students develop their knowledge and understanding of the development, functions and effects of art galleries and museums past and present, and to prepare students who successfully complete the course to apply for jobs in art galleries, museums and cultural management. In semester 1, students take three core courses: - Graduate Research Training Course - Museums, Museology and Museographies - The Museum and its Contexts In semester 2, students choose two of the following courses: - Museum Collections and Exhibitions - Art in the City: Collecting, Curating, Commissioning - Museums and Material Culture - Museums and their Visitors: Communication and Interpretation On successful completion of the taught courses, students write a 15,000 word dissertation on a topic of their choice. In addition, students undertake a work placement (minimum 20 days) in a museum or gallery. Full-time students complete the programme in 1 year and part-time students complete the programme in 2 years.
