Event titleThe big ask: how to handle enquiries (C11)
Details1000-1600

Museums must respond to enquiries with relevant, timely, user-friendly information. Enquiries can range from identification requests to queries about collections, subject matter, opening times and access.

Providing answers is a legal requirement with greater demands for transparency under recent legislation on Data Protection and Freedom of Information.

How should museums manage the demands of volume, customer service and legal obligation as public expectations rise and technology advances?

This conference shows you how to strategically assess and manage resources to answer enquiries in the most accurate and cost-effective way.

The day will help you develop better strategies for the museum and the enquirers, for example through online communities and will also look at future trends.

Who is it for?

Managers and staff responsible for:

• information, operations and website management
• research, subject and object enquiries
• frontline staff or volunteers
• visitor services and staff development.

What will I learn?

• how to improve customer service through better management of communications over the phone, online and in person
• strategies for managing volume, cost and other aspects of resource management relating to responding to enquiries
• legal issues around Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
