Event titleOpen up: stored collections as a public (C9) resource
Details1000-1600

Approximately 90 per cent of UK museum collections are held in store: does this mean that they are underused? This conference looks at how museums can use collections that remain in store in the most creative and sustainable ways and how they can treat them as an opportunity rather than a challenge, as assets rather than stock.

The recent University College London (UCL) report Collections for People investigates current use of collections in store and makes recommendations for improved future use.

Delegates will consider how to increase access to their stored collections in ways that suit the resources and purpose of their museums.

This conference is relevant for those thinking about the development of their collections, viewing collections and access together. It explores ways of getting people in to stored collections, not just getting collections out. The day will examine practical case studies of increased use of collections – and stimulate delegates to develop their own ideas.
