Find an object help
Step-by-step guide to posting your object on the Find an Object Site:
1. Log in to the MA’s website using the Log-in tab at the top right hand corner of the website
2. Click on the ‘Post Object’ link at the top of the Find an Object page
3. Select the type of post – either loan or disposal
4. Tick the box if posting a specific object
5. The object summary and description are mandatory fields. The summary will be the first thing that viewers of your object advert will see.
6. Give a full description of the object. This can include details such as whether the recipient will need to cover transportation costs, information on condition, etc. This will be seen when viewers click through from the main object list to your advert.
7. If the object is for sale, we will contact you for more information to ensure that the sale is ethical, in line with the Museums Association Code of Ethics.
8. The other comments box is for any other information you think is relevant for the administrators of the site, and will not be published on the website. For example, you might use this box to give us background information about your decision to dispose.
9. If you wish to upload an image, please ensure that the image is no larger than 100 x 100 pixels in size and 72dpi, otherwise the website will not accept your posting.
10. When you upload your object it will be added to your Museums Association record, so it is important to ensure that your work contact details registered with the Museums Association are up to date. To check and edit your contact details, use the ‘Your details’ link in the top left-hand corner of the page after you have logged in.
11. If your object is for disposal, after two months you will receive an email asking whether you have had any expressions of interest in the object; and whether you would like the object to remain on the site or to be taken down. If you have posted an enquiry or an object for loan, then these will stay posted until you wish them to be taken down.
12. If you would like to remove your advert, please either use the ‘Your Details’ section or email findanobject@museumsassociation.org
